Composites Automation, LLC is a Delaware-based small business partnership with the goal of commercializing composites technologies. CA has transitioned processing equipment to commercial and government customers, evaluated new materials and processes, developed new modeling tools and supported various projects with engineering consulting services.

CA is actively led by two partners, Dr. Dirk Heider and Dr. Shridhar Yarlagadda, with more than 25 years of experience each in composite materials development. They provide technical guidance on all projects and support our Senior Technical Investigator, Dr. Roger Crane. 

Fiber composites have the potential to impact multiple markets with focus on light-weighting and include consumer, medical, aerospace, in-space and automotive applications where structural performance and weight requirements are critical design drivers. Weight reduction of 50% compared to steel is typical for composites using quasi-isotropic (QI) layups while tailored designs further reduce weight for maximum mass reduction.
